One of the most challenging issues we face in the church today is the break-up of marriages and family. A Desperate Household Weekend is to encourage couples to take a look at the problems they are having and to step up to honestly addressing them.

A schedule that works well often includes a Saturday night event to get the weekend started. Getting couples together at a banquet followed by a word from Dr. Coffey is a great way to “break the ice” towards a welcoming weekend event. Another option is to kick off the weekend with a “date night” where couples go out to dinner at about 5:30 then return to the church for desserts and coffee, followed by about forty-five minutes of teaching.

Sunday morning Stan teaches marriage and family issues to the adult group in the church, especially the young adults. On Sunday evening a light meal, even sandwiches, is served for the couples followed by a teaching session. Finally, there is a commitment service during the Sunday evening worship hour with a challenge to establish Christ as Lord in our marriages and families.

This is not a schedule set in stone. Every pastor in every church knows what works the best for him. However, Stan is always ready to put preparation materials in the pastor’s hands with a step by step approach which will guarantee successful results.

We had a tremendous response to the messages of Stan Coffey during our special “Desperate Households” weekend. Brother Stan connects with our young families with his humor and his biblical application for today’s families. We even had a date night where couples dropped off the kids at the Family Life Center and went out to dinner and then came back for “Dessert and Coffey”. They just loved him! I recommend inviting Dr. Coffey if you are considering a special weekend to strengthen the families in your church.
